Sounds like he has developed a fear of the street noise or something. Is there a new neighbor? A new dog? Construction noise? I would just take it slow. Start playing with him in the yard. Then walk him just a few feet. Then gradually increase the distance you walk. Bring a squeaky toy and some treats and try to make being there fun.
