You're in luck. iphoto makes it easy.
With the picture open in iphoto, go under file and EXPORT. Depending on your version, it will either ask you to size the photo (make it 400 x 600 pixels) or to select the quality of the photo (medium).
Export it to your desktop. It will come out as a jpeg, but that's what YT wants. Then attach it through "manage attachments" off a message.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense, and I'll try to give you more information. I"m not on a mac right now, but I will be in 15 mins.
