Any acknowledgment of the crying will only reinforce the behavior. That means talking to or looking at your baby, touching your baby, taking your baby out of the pen just tells your baby that if she cries, she will get attention. Gracie still cries if she is locked in her pen and I am at home. I just ignore her until she is quiet, then I go pet her and talk to her. Make the pen a fun place to be, with lots of toys, food and water, and of course the pee pad. Don't use the pen for punishment. In time she will learn to like going to her "room". In fact, when I tell Gracie to "go to room" 9 times out of 10 she will. Her pen is the only place that I feed her.
