have you tried rescue remedy? It's an herbal remedy that (supposedly) relaxes dogs. I gave it to Banks when we flew home together. So far, I've been lucky, he doesn't really whine or cry in his crate unless he needs to go outside. Banks was biting me a little last night and I immediately put him on his back and said "No Bite." Not in a mean way, but in a way that told him I was serious - I wasn't angry or emotional - just telling him the rules. I then put my hand out and he licked it. We continued to play fetch after that.

In terms of his energy level - How long are your walks? I try to walk Banks for at least an hour a day. (this doesn't include short trips to the potty) This helps get him get his energy out. Also, if I know I'm going out for a while or that I'm going to need alot of down time, I try to take him on an extra long walk so that he won't have the energy to complain when he's by himself.

I read a really great book, "Mother Knows Best." It's a fantastic book that outlines good training techniques and the commands every dog should know.
