I have three furbabies, Molly- mom and her two babies almost 5 months old Princeton and Pinky. I have been trying to teach them to come to me in the backyard. We have a good sized fenced backyard and when we go out in it they run in all directions. I am using a clicker so the neighbors do not have to hear me calling them a million times. First, I got them use to the clicker by giving them a treat everytime it was clicked inside the house. So now when we go in the backyard I bring my clicker and treats. Now when I want to go inside I say "come" and "click" the clicker and see them all stop what they are sniffing and run with "joy and enthusium" to me. Yeah! I can not wait to try this at the dogpark.
I have read that eventually you can get rid of the clicker and just use their name but there needs to be a reward at the end. I am hoping that reward will be lots of attention from me eventually, maybe in another 6 months... |
