I only allow my vet to take care of anal glands. According to Dr. Amy, the glands should only be expressed when needed, not as part of a regular normal grooming. The glands secrete lubricants as well as doggie scent. If the glands are full and backed up and are exprressed incorrectly, they could burst inside the dog setting up an infection.

I am sure that there are many very competent groomers who routinely express anal glands successfully, but it only takes one mistake.....
