If it were me...I wouldn't feed him in his cage...if you have to leave him in it all day how will he go to the bathroom? You really don't want him using his crate for eating, sleeping and pee and pooping. Do you have a room (like kitchen or bathroom) that you could block him in? Lillie is 6 1/2 months old she still gets into to much mischief if left alone..even though she has her big sister Sadie around (Sadie is 6 lbs! real big!!) I use a baby play pen..I put her pee pad, food, bed and a toy in there for her...I only use her crate for sleeping.. this is what I do...I'm sure you will get other suggestions.
