in a word, NO. most viruses, infections, and diseases are species specific. the common cold and flu in humans are species specific and cannot be transmitted to your dog, cat, or bird. they can suffer ailments that resemble a human cold, but it's not and they didn't catch it from you, nor can you catch whatever your dog's got. That's why you don't get kennel cough from your dog even though you've not been vaccinated against it.

that is why the avian flu (bird flu) got so much press, it is transmittable between humans and animals through the environment (ie, no fluid transfer neccessary like rabies), a very rare and unique circumstance.
