I bought the little tiny hand clippers for 10-12 dollars and do the pads, tips of their ears and a hygienic trim on my male with those. It really is not hard to do.
I also clip the nails myself, if you are nervous just do the tip of them and every week do it a little more. I think the more you clip them the more retracted the blood vessel will get. (I cannot remember where I heard that but I think it is true). Keep a styptic pencil or powder on hand if you do clip a little short.
The one thing I cannot bring myself to do and do take them to the groomer for, is the hair inside of their ears.
