Yes, you should get papers when you buy a puppy but I no longer use AKC for the reason of them losing my puppy papers and I've had to sell 3 different litters (different years) without their papers and mail the papers later. I lost sales because of it. I also mailed the application in when the pups were 2 wks old and at 12 wks still didn't have papers. There is always an exception. I totally understood the people that didn't buy my puppies because I didn't have their papers. I wouldn't have bought them either. I hope everything works out for you. I'd love to see a picture of your pup.
