It is definately something people can learn to do. I used to teach a Stress Management class. "Stress usually involves a demand or obstacle that we feel we don't have the ability to handle" -- that is where a person's own self-concept is so important in the way they are able to meet the demand.
Our self-concept affects how we see ourselves, how we see others, and how we think about situations.
