One note of caution about sugar free chocolates and candies...some people don't react well to the sugar alcohols in them. They can cause bloating and gas and diarrhea in some people so I'd recommend that you try a few before stocking up on sugar free candies. I used to get terrible cramps from many sugar alcohols but my boyfriend didn't so keep that in mind because it can be EXTREMELY uncomfortable
My boyfriend and I went on the SouthBeach Diet in 2003 and I lost about 15lbs. I'd say that for the most part I kept if off but my weight still fluctuates 5-7lbs. He lost it fast but gained most of it back. My problem is that I have a sweet tooth and I missed fruits and my sweets--especially ice cream. There are sugar free ice creams but they just didn't taste the same to me

.It wasn't too difficult eating low carb. I was skeptical at first because I ALWAYS CRAVE sugar and everything I read said that you won't crave sugars. Someone recommended not to give in during the first 3 days--I totally agree with that. You just need to get over the hump and then it's smooth sailing. I liked south beach vs. atkins because not only are you eating low carb, but you are eating healthier fats too. They recommend canadian bacon or turkey bacon rather than real bacon and low fat cheeses rather than the real stuff (if you can actually tolerate low fat cheese).
Dana Carpender has really good low carb cookbooks--her first one was 500 low carb recipes. South Beach diet (the blue book) also has some tasty recipes. There should also be a TON online given the low carb craze of recent years. Let me know if anyone needs recipes because I have about 12 low carb cookbooks.
sorry for the long post--i got carried away
good luck to everyone
