i adopted an adult rescue yorkie (bubba) when my puppy (bunjee) was about 8 months old. bunjee was great with his soon to be fursibling when they met the first time. but when bubba came home with us and didn't leave, bunjee got territorial and mean. it took a few months for them to get along. now they still have their occassional fights, but otherwise they get along pretty well. i think something that's helpful is if both dogs are about the same size. bunjee has a good 3 lbs over bubba and tend to bully bubba with his size.
