Mcgrether. I did some research online and it seems that they are trying to pass a puppy lemon law in your state of Ohio, but you are correct it has not yet been passed (That I see anyway). What a sin. You may have to chalk this up to a very expensive lesson learned and just eat the money you spent. You could try to file a claim in small claims court. It certainly woulnd't hurt to try anyway. Just a little back ground. Pennsylvania is one of the biggest puppymill states. Surprisingly, the Amish are the biggest puppymillers. In Pennsylvania dog auctions are banned. Many of the PA Amish travel across the border to Ohio and sell their "Stock" at a very well known flea market located in Holmes county. They have monthy dog auctions that a lot of the puppymill rescues raise funds to go to in which they buy the neediest of the dogs. Their "Stock" consist of old dogs, mothers with babies, preg. dogs, puppies, and yes sick dogs and very old dogs. Pet stores buy their "Stock" from puppymills. These dogs almost always have some kind of problems. Most have genetic defects and this is due to the millers breeding not for quality but for quanity. They sell their pups very cheap to the stores and therefore it's easier and cheaper for a pet store to dispose of the dog and offer you a new one, rather then pay the vet bills. Again, I'm not trying to make you feel guilty. Many are not educated on where these pet store pups come from and unknowningly buy from these places. My reccomendation to you is to take it as an expensive lesson learned, look here for a good Yorkie rescue who will have the experience and rescources to allow her to life a decent life, and look for a reputable breeder or even go to Petfinder.com and possibly find a young Yorkie rescue. Since there are no puppy laws in the state of Ohio, your $$ is gone. To exchange her for another pup that may also have problems down the line is only going to cause a vicious cycle. Just my .02. I really hope that Lacey gets the life she deserves and I truly am sorry for you and you wife as well. It's very heartbreaking. Elaine (mom to three Yorkie rescues and one Morkie) here are some links to places to look www.puppymillrescue.com another is petfinder.com and of course I'm sure others can direct you to good breeders and reputable Yorkie rescues.
