2006 Vaccination Guidelines∗ University of Florida College of
Veterinary Medicine


CORE VACCINES
1. DA2PP
• begin vaccination at 6‐8 weeks of age • booster with DA2PP every 2‐
4 weeks until 16 weeks of age • administer SQ over the right
shoulder (MLV parenteral) • revaccinate in 1 year then q 3 years
2. RABIES

• vaccinate at 12‐16 weeks of age • revaccinate in 1 year then every
3 years according to Alachua County Animal Control • administer IM
or SQ in right rear leg
NON‐CORE
1. BORDETELLA
• vaccinate `at risk' dogs • vaccinate > 6 ‐ 8 weeks of age
(intranasal product) • vaccinate 7 ‐ 10 days prior to group
confinement (prefer 10‐14 days) • revaccinate annually unless
required q 6 months by boarding facility or risk factors - can
use IN or parenteral product as a booster; UF generally uses IN
product for na?ve animals and injectable product as a booster SQ
(left rear leg)

2. LEPTOSPIROSIS 4‐WAY SUBUNIT VACCINE

• vaccinate `at risk' dogs
• begin vaccination at 12 - 16 weeks of age (SQ left shoulder)
• booster 3‐4 weeks later
• puppy can be boostered again at 6 months of age if high risk
• revaccinate in 1 year, then q 1 year or q 6 months depending on
risk
• Miniature dachshunds and some toy breeds may be more at risk for
anaphylaxis
3. CORONA
• not used ‐ consider if `at risk'
4. LYME
• not used - available if considered `at risk' going to a Lyme
endemic area
5.GIARDIA
• not used ‐ consider if `at risk' as adjunctive control



Feline
CORE VACCINES
1. FVRCP
• begin vaccination at 6‐8 weeks of age • booster q 2‐4 weeks until
14 ‐16 weeks of age • revaccinate in 1 year then q 3 years (or `at
risk') • administer SQ over the right forelimb as distally as
possible (MLV parenteral)

2. RABIES
• vaccinate at 12‐16 weeks of age • revaccinate in 1 year then every
3 years if killed product • Alachua Co requires q 3 year rabies as
of January 2001 • administer SQ in right rear leg as distally as
possible • can use a non‐adjuvanted 1 year DOI rabies at owners
request instead
