Julz - this is her first - 5 pups. She is a great mother, and you are right about loosing your baby to her babies. I am not sure if I will let them mate again. Right now, I am giving one to my girlfriend and planning to keep the rest. Now, I don't even want to give her one (I'm horrible). Did you ever see the movie "The Retrievers" a family sells their litter of golden retrievers, goes crazy missing them, and goes to get them all back. It is cute.
We have the male and female, at about 4 weeks they began this horrible vicious fighting. We have had to keep them separated ever since. I have become a slave to the pups, they both want me to be with them all the time. When we accidentally let them together, they may be fine for a little, then they get this look in their eyes - staring each other down, and attack. They hurt each other and bleed. So I move them from room to room, cage to cage, backyard, and on and on all day!
I want my two lovable sweet babies back - to follow me from room to room, in and out, up and down. (Of course, now I will have 6 -or 7) I shouldn't say that, I am sure my girlfriend will be here sometime soon
