At this point, I wouldn't worry about dry food, getting her to eat is most important. Also honey works faster then nutri-cal to ward of a hypoglyemic attack. I have found with a new puppy, it takes them time to adjust to a new home and they are off eating. Once I bought a Yorkie from Canada. The breeder send her "puppy formula" along with her. She had purified the dry food in a blender and added sugar to it, then warm water. I also have used Gerber's rice baby cereal. You can even add more water to feed with a syringe. I sometimes dilute baby chicken/rice food (in a jar) with water, seems to appeal to a puppy, makes a mess.
I have a tiny rare breed dog that's past a year(arrived at 16 weeks old), never had a hypoglycemic attack but had one 2 weeks ago. We had him tested for everything including bile acid and all was fine. He was playing with my wired (I'm being generous, he's nuts) Yorkie puppy and his blood sugar dropped. We are giving him nutri-cal inbetween meals and smaller meals 4x's a day by his vet's direction. I keep them separated since the Yorkie is my worst nightmare but he's all mine, a devil dog! |
