Lucie may never need it, but like Lily's Mom said "When you suspect she is suffering from low blood sugar from stress, injury, etc. When she becomes limp, inable to walk, loose stool, acts drunk she has run out of fuel for her little body." If you notice her being lethargic is a good sign too or if she just isn't eating at all, Nutrical will help. I've never had to give Daisy or Choppi Nutrical but it was my best friend and life saver for Pochi who was hypoglycemic. He went into sugar shock 2x when he was a baby but he's fine now. Some of the signs you may look for is, she won't eat at all, she's extremely shy/nervous and only wants to sleep. If she's dehydrated. If her breeder tells you to watch out for hypoglycemia (may have had issues with past litters) you can also add Karo syrup to her water. If she's at the point where she's going into seizures then at that point she won't be taking the Nutrical you will have to put it in her mouth and take her to the Vet so that she can get some fluids in her.
NutriCal should never be a replacement to meals either. Since it is high in calories the dogs love the taste and may prefer to only eat that if you are giving it to her too often.
I use NutriCal as a treat nowadays or if I have to leave the babies at home they know cause I give them some when I leave to let them know I'll be back soon.
Hope that helps.
