We had mixed feelings too when I read it. We are always looking for the best for our beloved pets, but I sometimes wonder if "we" (pet owners) do too much - and what it may cause in the long run.
I think it would be great to fight diseases, but I don't know if I would even take the vaccine for this - if available for humans.
Course, I am the person who didn't think it was right that is was mandatory for our kids to get the chicken pox vaccine - just because they didn't know how long it would last or what the outcome was w/ it. With chicken pox - it is ten times worse to have as adults, so I hope it doesn't end up hurting people in the long run. -- Same w/ our pets and all their vaccines (I guess).
Side Note: I was told that if you wanted to have a deceased pet "mounted/stuff" to keep - you really couldn't because they wouldn't keep their hair from all the drugs that are put into their systems. Okay, I know that is totally disgusting, but that is what a taxidermy person told us a few years ago. Makes you wonder what is happening inside their bodies.
Anyway, I thought it was an interesting read and had to pass it on to see what everyone else thought.
