I totally feel for you and can definitely empathize with you. I grew up with a name that was not only hard to read people but hard to pronounce. People made fun of it so much, I hated it and had everyone call me by my middle name which was so much easier (which I ended up legally changing to as my first name). I dreaded first day of school, because I knew my teachers would mess up my name. I always knew when they came across my name because I usually was last since my last name started with a "Y" and there was that dreaded pregnant pause... and them going "....um" and just saying what ever came to their head which wasn't even close. If they even stuck to the phonetical spelling they would have gotten it right or close. But even some of them would joke about it and make fun of it.

Unfortunately, some people use their ignorance as a way of making fun of other people to make themselves feel better about themselves.
Don't let anyone make you mad or upset about their ignorance, feel sorry for them that they are so closed minded and dense that they will never "get it" that what they said is so stupid and nothing to offer but idiocy.
