Dogs are restricted to leashes and fenced back yards and soon as they see a get out of jail opening, they sprint, it's like chasing a rabbit. Mines chased a rabbit out the yard (of course the rabbit was faster) I called and chased and he stopped, but I still tapped him anyway. They should stop on command, as I am working on that now. I carry a fly swatter (instead of rolled newspaper) when we go in the yard unleashed. I tapped him with it once last year for sprinting and he ran under the bed. Now when he sees it, he's the perfect angel. I have not had to use it since, but I swat the floor and the wall with it every now and then just to let him know I have it. Glad you caught her!
I did exactly that, swatted her as I scooped her up. It didn't hurt her. I wasn't hitting her hard at all, it was the action of being swatted I wanted her to get. That she did something wrong and it's not acceptable. She is one year old today.
