We've looked at the cat crates but they are still too big. She is just soooo tiny!

What do you mean she "goes nuts" in the wire crate?? Have you tried covering three sides with a blanket or towel to make it more den-like?
She flips out, starts biting the sides, screams, sticks her face through, etc. Behaviour she doesn't do in the pet carriers. The small wire crates around here are still massive. But covering with a blanket might be worth a try. I'll have to search online to see if a tiny wire crate is even available.
