My dog has had 5 painful scrapings and no mites were seen) so they usually just treat for it and hope it works. My baby got four rounds of Ivermectin shots, was on antibiotics twice, and still on a nutritional suppliment. I've switched his food to Science Diet by a few different vet recommendations. And he gets bathed once a week with a mild fatty acid perscription shampoo.

His hair is starting to grow (finally!), but it is also thinning again in other areas. I don't know which treatment was actually the one that started working (maybe all of them), but what a pain in the butt it has been. I can't wait for his hair to finally come in like it's supposed to. He is almost 5 months old and I've never seen him the way he is really supposed to look, lol.

Good luck on this. I don't wish that problem on anybody.
I am sorry your little guy has went through so much. Chachi had mites and the Vet found it by doing a single skin scrape. It is very hard to treat and Chachi had to be dipped in a strong solution several times. We stopped the dips because they were making him sick. It did treat and get rid of the mites though.
