Other than your way of requiring a sit (which is good), here is the kindest way to teach it. Unfortunately, it requires cooperation from everyone in the household as well as from some of your visitors.

EVERY single time puppy jumps up on you, immediately break eye contact, cross you arms (if your hands aren't full!), and turn your back. As soon as pup has "four on the floor", acknowledge and praise pup. You will probably have to repeat numerous times, but pup will figure out that the only way to get attention is to stay off of you.

Once she learns the lesson from you, she'll have to learn it from everyone else in the house. But, she should figure it out much quicker after the first time.
