I send Loki to doggie daycare once a week so he can run run run!!! He gets far more out of that than a walk.
He gets 1/2 cup a day split into two meals, plus probably more treats than the average dog since we do training at least every other day. Maybe he gets a handful of treats each day. He is a 11 pounds. I just checked the bag and the "feeding recommendations" for a 10 lb adult is 3/4 cup per day. A little high, but he does get treats. He gets premium food (Canidae Lamb & Rice) The lesser quality foods actually suggest that you feed more for two reasons - They are lower quality nutrients so a dog actually has to eat more of it, AND to sell more food!
You should be able to notice a "tuck" up under the dog, no belly hanging down, and a visible waist. You should also feel a thin layer of fat over the ribs, but you should still be able to feel each rib. Does that make sense? |
