Good for you doing it all by hand. It will definitely take longer and you need to make smaller stitches. If you sew in lining/or double up on the fabric. This way you could hide a lot of the hand sewing and would look more professional. You could then hand embroider there name on the garment at work too.

Oh Yeah, try to get fabric that does not stretch. It is a little harder to sew with and Walmart has the cheapest fabric.
