What my Grandma did was always buy me "extra" but bring it to me and told me I couldn't say a word to the others. Then I would have a regular gift to open with everyone else. My Grandma was such a joy I miss her so much, I took very good care of her towards the end. We had a special bond.
But your right why bother my mom's mother loves to regift so I will probably see the gift I gave her 2 years ago come back! hehe
