I don't think it sounds so far fetched to me. Obviously if you overfeed them, they would get bigger. Why are so many people overweight and bigger than the average size......because they overeat. Sure it can be genetics but if you eat too much or feed your dog to much it is going to weigh more than it should and that could possibly push it over the standard of 7 lbs. Especially if it was 6 lbs to begin with. That being said I do agree that some breeders use that as an excuse in case the puppies go over, and that way they can blame the new puppy owner.
