Just because he's 7 doesn't mean that he has experienced floors like you have. But, I also agree that it may be because it is cold and slippery. Especially now that it is colder, Joey will make a bee-line for a throw rug if asked to do a sit or a down on the tile ("It still counts if I do it over here, right? Right?" Pretty cute!).

In any case, what I would do is scatter treats on the scary floors when he's not looking. When I wanted to give him a new toy, I'd leave it for him to find on the scary floor. IOW, I'd make those scary floors a great place for a dog to be!
