If she is in a situation where she cannot be impregnated, I would definitly not spay her - I think you have to balance the risks and in Cali's case the risk would be higher to be hurt in surgery if there is no way she can get pregnant. A heat season only lasts a couple of weeks and if you don't have any other male dogs that are not neutered - there would not be a problem. Just keep her inside at all times during those two weeks. Does that make sense? As far as the dew claws - keep them clipped as short as you can when you do your grooming of her. The teeth - I'm not sure - but if you keep them as clean as you do - wouldn't it be less of a problem even if they are crowded. I just think anesthesia and surgery are more of a risk than people realize - if you have ever seen a dog be put under or opened up you would know what I mean. |
