This thread is starting to scare me a bit so I am going to try and explain ear trimming to you:

It is the shaving of the last third of the ear , this will make the ends of the ear lighter in weight. If you do not shave the tips of the ears the weight of the hair will pull the ear over so it may not stand. Some people will do this with scissors but on a wiggly puppy it can be a bit dangerous. It is best if you let a groomer do this for a while if you do not understand how and maybe she can show you how to use the clippers so you can do it at home.

Most people at home use a Whal mustach trimmer, bought at Wal Mart

It is still possible to hurt your dog during this process so be very careful.
There is no cutting of the ear itself just removing the hair at the ends. Maybe if you look at some show pictures it will become clearer to you.
