I went through the basic course with my Greyhound and really enjoyed it. The key is to check out all of the different Petsmarts because they all have different trainers. Don't be afraid to ask them about their credentials. Also watch them while they are teaching a class. Most Petsmarts have the training areas set up so that the public can observe. You also want to keep in mind what kind of dogs the trainer is used to training. Some work better with smaller dog and some with larger dogs. It does make a difference. Also make sure they can cater to your breed's specific needs. For example, Greyhounds have a very hard time sitting, it is physically painful and impossible for some to sit. I had to find a trainer that was Greyhound savvy and that had worked with Greyhounds before.
Good luck. Training classes can be a wonderful boning experience. |
