How do we protect ourselves and our puppies from people like this? I can't imagine my little puppy in that steel building in those cages on those hard cold floors. Makes me sick to think there are people out there that would even make a dog live like that.
As you have likely noticed there are getting to be far too many of the likes of this woman that contacted you. Yes, I have had them get irate when I refused to sell either on the grounds it was not a suitable home in the case of a pet, or on the grounds that I do not sell open papers.
To keep my puppies and dogs out of a place like this, I do not ship. I do not sell on open papers and I do not sell with nonbreeding contracts. I do have a private contract stipulating the care etc expected of the buyer and that the buyer understands this puppy is for pet only. I no longer need a nonbreeding contract as the puppy has been spayed/neutered already by my Vet. They cannot come back and say gee why is this female not coming into heat or they didn't know I was not selling a breedable dog? It's in the contract they signed.
that means my puppies are at least 7 months old before they leave, often older. I don't have that many puppies at any time anyway. As a show breeder, I like to see how they are turning out to be sure what I want to keep and what I want to go for pet.
I have had people argue they don't want to buy that old a puppy or think they get it for half price. They can go elsewhere.
You would also be surprised at the number of people that express interest in one of my puppies and don't mind the nonbreeding, that is until they find out I already have them spayed or neutered. SUddenly they have to talk to their husband or wife first.
It boils down to the pet buyers I do get are beyond excellent.
My dogs and puppies are happy and well cared for. I get to sleep nights.
As long as the YOrkie or small mixed breeds of dogs are going to continue to be so popular, this will continue and will continue to get worse as well.
