I use a hemostat.....I get a better grip, but it's just a matter of preferance. Use what you feel comfortable with. I usually do it before baths, then after bath follow up with ear cleaner with a drying agent (I use Vet Solutions from animalrevival). You might want to use a little powder it gives you a better grip.
