Do they have a catastrophic limit? An amount that you won't have to pay over for the year? My health insurance is like that. They only pay so much up to that limit. Once I have paid out-of-pocket up to my limit, they will cover everything over that. I like that part of my insurance most. I don't necessarily need it for the help with office visits but I am thankful it is there in case we have a medical emergency that runs into the tens of thousands.
Insurance can be a waste of money if it only pays a little on some things. But if a person has no savings then it might make the difference between a vet providing service or not for something big and maybe elective. I would talk to the vet about the insurance and then weigh carefully the benefits vs. cost. First figure how it would work out if all goes well and you just have routine vet checks and vaccines. Then think of 2-3 medical situations and figure what this insurance would pay towards them. Then weigh how that would balance out over a 5-10 year period. Then decide if the help the insurance would provide would really balance out all the payments you will be making. Then you will know if it will be worth it. |
