The book that I read says that you have to train them the way that their canine mom would and that in the "pack" if they were barking their mom would just ignore them and turn their back to them and make no eye contact. so if I am eating or working on the computer and they come up and bark, I turn my back to them so that there is no eye contact. This method says that if you are verbal to them in anyway then you are giving in to them bc you are showing them attention, which the goal of them barking at us is to get our attention. So under no circumstances can you acknowledge their barks. By ignoring them you are signaling that I can't hear you or see you when you do this. Now, I have no idea what anyone else will say about this method of training, but all I can say is that I had never had a dog, any dog before I got Tino so I read some books from Barnes & Noble when I got him and this is what it said to do and this is what worked for me. I am no dog trainer or behavior expert... this is just my personal experience.
