Default Slow growing coat...

Jo-Jo is 6 months old and healthy but his coat is thin and I think it grows too slowly. It's probably grown about an inch in 2 months...is that considered slow? When I first got him his hair was rather dry and dull looking but I switched him to Innova dry food and Wellness canned food and he's starting to look better. Is there anything else I can do to help from a nutritional standpoint? I don't want a conditioner or anything topical to create the shine...I want it to be a healthy shine because he's getting everything he needs. Maybe he's growing taller and his hair hasn't caught up so it just looks like it isn't growing! I guess I shouldn't complain though because he doesn't tangle at all. Is he still in the 'ugly duckling' stage of coat changes at 6 months?
