My dogs are always this way. They always want to come to me "on their own terms." If I reach to pet them - they back away - and if I go to pick them up - we have a "try and catch me" game instantly -- which they think is great fun - and which they usually win. When I do catch them - they will sit with me and cuddle up and enjoy it, but before long they want down and off to do their own thing again.

Then - when they feel like it - they run and jump up on the sofa beside me and want to snuggle and take a nap.

This is normal at my house. My dogs like to be held when they want to be held - but, obviously, this isn't all the time.

Nevertheless - my dogs are still very playful, loving, and affectionate. They would never consider sleeping anyplace other than right beside me...snuggle -snuggle!

***** This is somewhat off the subject - but I think that my Bichon with his cottony fluffy coat of hair - sometimes gets too warm being next to me. Because he often jumps down and goes somewhere where he can really stretch out - almost like he is trying to cool off. Who knows!
