First look at what you are feeding -- make sure there is no corn or wheat in it -- those can cause skin problems with dogs that have allergies. Next see if a vet will test for hypothyroidism --there are other symptoms too but some dogs present first with skin problems like this. Replacing the thyroid hormone can clear it immediately if this is the problem. Also need to test the skin for problem parasites -- like mange/skin mites which will make for some pretty wicked skin problems. Those are the first 3 things I would check when skin problems arise.
