When not pregnant, many vets will use a mild sedative on a dog while doing x-rays. Especially if the x-ray is for PennHip slides or OFA slides. That way the vet can place the dog on it's back and get proper extension of the limbs w/o causing undue stress and discomfort on the dog. If the dog weren't sedated, they may resist and the x-ray often doesn't come out clear or accurate.

But naturally, they wouldn't do this w/ a pregnant female.
HEY! If they do an ultrasound of the pups, ask them to print out a photo! If there machine is capable, and many are, how great would that be? I'd LOVE to see 'em!
