I've never heard of them sedating a female for an x-ray or ultra sound. I like the ultra sound because they can move around and not have to remain completely still. Plus,. the vet can keep going until they've seen all they need to. The downside I've found is you can count a pup on one side and it may move to the other and get counted twice...as was the case with us.
