I made a game out of it the first couple of days. My husband would hold Scout on the other side of the room, and then I'd stand by the bells and yell "COME!!" She'd run to me and I'd get her to ring bell (manually at first), then I'd shriek "GOOD GIRL!" give her a small treat and then the door would fly open. We kept repeating this until she understood that bell ring = open door.

Keep repeating this for 5-10 min (just like any training session) and treat it like a fun game and they should learn quickly.
