Shana,

I love cats too and I can relate to your excitement at changing your husband's mind--my husband is adament about not getting a cat-- he says he does not like them, but maybe in five years I will change his mind too!

All cats shed to some degree but I have my eye on tonkinese cats http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/tonkinese.html or burmese cats http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/burmese.html With both of these breeds the shedding is supposed to be manageable, allergens on the low side and they both have nice personalities. My first pick would be a sable burmese myself!

If you do find a cat in a shelter I would recommend petting the cat and even brushing it to see how badly it sheds. That seems to be the best way to figure out if a particular cat is a heavy shedder. It just seems to vary from cat to cat, I had a brother and sister cat and there was even a difference between the two. I used to brush my girl cat and I would end up with piles of hair from her undercoat as big as a kitten and she kept shedding no matter how often I brushed her!

Good luck on your search!
