I wish I had better advice....... I don't think he should be allowed to "pounce" the cats, but how to stop him??? Rexy wants to chase cats so when we are out with the harness and leash on, when he starts to chase a cat, I correct him by pulling on the leash, bending down and saying "no" firmly. He is learning, but he still wants to and I know if he were off leash that he would chase after them.
I bet someone who knows about training will come on and help you. Keep bumping this up during the day and I'm sure you will get some good answers.
