I think it's just a MUST to have one on hand, but we rarely use ours.
I've heard that they should be JUST large enough for the dog to stand up, turn around in and lay down. This might be only for when first beginning crate training. Once the dog is trained, I think it's OK to get a larger one to put food, water, and a pee pad in there.
We use an xpen instead of a crate. I have a collapsable fabric large dog crate that I take with me on trips to use as Emma's own space for a blanket and toys. |
