You're right. Most will breed 2 heat cycles then break for one. I have heard of some that will breed 5 straight heat cycles in a row and then spay the bitch.

With Gracie, I bred her twice and rested her once. I think that for her, however, I'm just going to breed her every other heat cycle from now on. Her most recent litter is 3 weeks old today and while I have changed Gracie's diet up completely and have her on multi-vitamins, she's doing much better than her past litters. But for her sake and for the sake of not running her down, every other heat.

A good breeder must do what is best for the dog.
