A while back we took Pepper to visit hubby's family in MD. We stayed in a hotel overnight and put 2 pads down, both in the corners, as those places he'd probably pick on his own. And he didn't have a single accident, I was very surprised, as at that point he still would have one at home (he was about 4-5 months). Make sure you walk him to the pad so he doesn't get confused with an unfamiliar room. But he'll be fine
