No one would really know since there isn't an outward indication that the dog is chipped. I mean, they give you a tag to put on your dogs collar, but that's assuming two things: 1.) your dog will be wearing said collar w/ said tag and 2.) that the person viewing that info. is honest and takes your dog in to be scanned.
NOW, if your dog does get loose, let's say, and it's picked up by a local police; animal control; an honest citizen; or is a new patient at a vets office, the routinely now scan for microchips. So, I'd ask your vet what there policy is. Ask him/her if they get a new patient in, even if it's a puppy, will they scan it for a chip to confirm the identity of the owner? If it's an older new patient and the info. doesn't match up, it's possible that the old owners just never transferred the data over, but the vet should still attempt to contact the owners on file to confirm first that that's in fact what's happened. |
