My suggestion is to ask your vet. My vet said that the ration amounts given on pet food bags are often more than what a pet needs. This makes for more product sales. The size and activity of your dog, and whether or not he/she needs to gain weight, lose weight or just keep the status quo, along with what kind of food you are feeding will dictate how much to give.
