I paid an average price for him, and he was worth ever penny in my opinion at least!!! I also just do not get why many people seem so sensitive about the issue of dogs who will never be bred, never attempt to compete in conformation, etc exactly adhering to the standard! They are pets, they are pure bred yorkies, and they are not going to be bred producing more dogs that are out of the standard! So that is what I see as snobbish other people critisizing others pets! I get particularly upset when this sort of criticism comes from those owning the adult yorkies barely pushing 2lbs, I gaurantee that those dogs would have about as much success in the ring as my 11lb Bruce.
Basically in sum, keep the judging in the show ring and to the breeders! |
I, too, have tired of total strangers commenting negatively about Ginger's large size. Now, when someone asks me what kind of dog she is, I find myself saying, "she's a yorkie, and yes, she's big, and yes, she has floppy ears" because I'm tired of the criticism, I just cut them off.
To make matters worse, she has terrible allergies, and after trying everything else, I cut her hair really short to make the Aveeno baths easier to deal with. Now that we've found the right combo of diet and meds, I'm letting it grow again, but NOW I'm also getting rude comments about her hair.
Some guy at the Pet Valu actually approached us last week and started by asking if he could pet her. After getting all kinds of lovin' from my girl, he looks at me and says" please stop abusing her, you should never cut a yorkies hair"
ARGGGGGH
I think it's something about yorkies. I had a shihtzu who was 5-6 lbs soaking wet. The breed standard says, 9-16 lbs, and most that I've met are closer to the 16 lb range. Anyway, in 15 years no one EVER criticized me or her because she was too small. Or because I kept her hair short, come to think on it.
What is it with people and yorkies?
